Deap Vally are bloody brilliant. They sound like karen O gone schitz on blues, rock & roll. These girls know how to make music, with deep scuzzy guitar riffs and a soulful voice Lindsey Troy takes the lead and keeping the rhythm with the drums is Julie Edwards. The duo met through knitting and discovered they had same taste in music, it wasn't long before those knitting needles turned to drumsticks. They have been described as having similar sounds too Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Joan Jett, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Black Keys and The White Stripes. Can't get much better comparisons than that.
Deap Vally don't only sound good they look damm hot too with Leather jackets, denim shorts, fringed t-shirts, studded shoes and sunglasses, oh and a can of redstripe in hand, they are a Californian dream.
They are touring the uk just now, cant wait to see them this Friday at The Soup Kitchen. Tickets £5 here at ticketline.
Check them out in this well directed video for their new single Gonna Make My Own Money....

On Monday we were devastated to here that Tony Scott, the director of one of our favourite films, True Romance, had committed suicide. Tony Scott done an amazing job on the movie and was himself such a True Romantic at heart that he changed the ending of the original script written by Tarantino. In the original Clarence dies and Alabama drives away with all the money but Scott couldn't kill Clarence instead he opted for the happily ever after ending.
On this Scott said;
“I was criticized for making it such a sweet and romantic end, but honestly, in my heart of hearts, I did this for creative reasons and not for commercial reasons. I wasn’t a sell-out. This was how I believed the movie should end, and I wanted to see my characters survive and live happily ever after, because, for me, the movie is a strange nursery rhyme, and I want my characters to continue on to live happily ever after.”
Well R.I.P Mr Scott and we thank you for this violent but beautiful film.
Sending a heavenly Happy Birthday to the rocker himself, big Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy! A GREAT man.
Paul Banks, leader singer/guitarist of New York's Interpol returns with his 2nd solo album. Stepping aside from his alter ego Julian Plenti, Banks himself descibes the record as ''A 10-song album with a tour-de- force of exhilarating minor-key intensity. The album is personal and epic, catchy and serpentine – much like your favorite Interpol albums –wry humor, bare emotion, and varied influences all in full effect.''
Track listing :

2. Over My Shoulder
3. Arise, Awake
4. Young Again
5. Lisbon
6. I’ll Sue You
7. Paid For That
8. Another Chance

10. Summertime Is Coming
For the first time ever there will be a celebration exhibition of David Bowie's screenwork held at the ICA in London. The Thin White Duke has been in some cult classics such as The Man Who Fell To Earth, Christiane F, Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, The Hunger and of course most famously perhaps as The Goblin King in Labyrinth.
The screenings seem a fitting tribute in conjunction with Bowie's recent 65th birthday as well as the 40th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. The 3 day event runs right through the day and night as well as talks, Q&A's and afterparties to get Bowie'd after the movies.
And before you ask, the cracked actor's representatives have neither confirmed nor denied weather he will be in attendance....
Bowiefest runs from Friday 31st August to Sunday 2nd September at the ICA, London. More info and how to purcahse tickets can be found here http://bowiefest.net/
