Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars

Just now on BBC iplayer you can catch the classic rock film Film Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars by DA Pennebaker documenting David Bowie in concert at the Hammersmith Odeon in the 70's.

The film opens to Bowies reflection in the mirror as his make up artist works on his appearance transforming David Bowie to Ziggy Stardust his androgynous alter ego. As Ziggy Stardust you can see him perform many of the greats from the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars as well as tracks from his other albums Aladdin Sane, Hunky Dory and Space Oddity. Just before the encore Bowie superbly covers one of our favourite songs "White Light/White Heat" by The Velvet Underground. Afterwards the clapping crowd waiting in anticipation for more receive a shock as Bowie re-enters and announces Not only is this the last show of the tour, but it's the last show that we'll ever do. Fittingly to follow Bowie plays "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide" but later a relieved audience would discover that the only suicide was that of the alter ego Ziggy Stardust and not Bowie's music career.

PEARL JAM PAY TRIBUTE TO JOE STRUMMER AT ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL 2012

After two sold out shows at the Manchester Evening News Arena this week American rockers Pearl Jam closed the second day at The Isle of Wight Festival with a special tribute to Clash frontman Joe Stummer. "He would have loved this place," Vedder told the crowd. "We were thinking about it on the way here, and sad to say, it’ll be almost 10 years in December he’s not been with us." The band then went on to cover the Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros' 'Arms Aloft'.

The band also done a cover of The Beatles ''Rain'' in fitting circumstances as the festival was a complete washout throughout the day. Mud, rain, Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam in fine form we are glad to report.

THE BEST THING WE'VE HEARD IN AGES....

A while back someone off our facebook page recomended ''Uncle Acid and The Deadbeats'' to us.

A 3 piece from Cambridgeshire. Upon cehcking them out via thier page they descibe themsleves as ''PsychGarageHorrorRock'' and their interests as ''MIND CONTROL HORROR''. Their sound is a hellish as it gets. Here is their album ''Blood Lust'' in full below....

With Black Sabbath influence all over it, an edge of classic rock and heavy psychedelic guitar riffs, dreamy, haunting, howling femme fatale lead, we grabbed it by the neck and emabacred it as much as the tracks themselves do. The dirty, doomy riffs continued as we listened to it more and more and it blew us away. Excellent.

BANKSY BACK WITH A BOWIE TWIST....

Banksy is believed to have made his own tribute to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations by stenciling a picture of Her Majesty as Aladdin Sane. Shyly sporting the famous zig zag that Bowie used for his hit 70's record. Rather royalee rock n roll indeed for the jubilee celebrations we think.....here here!

STILL HAUNTING US 32 YEARS LATER...

32 years ago today (18th May) Ian Curtis passed away through tragic circumstances.

We still remember the man and most of all the music, here's Joy Divison Live at Manchester Apollo 1979 opening their set with Dead Souls...

Peter Hook and The Light will be performing Joy Division's Still tonight and tomorrow night at Fac251 Factory

Still marks a different challenge for the band and a new experience for the audience as the two disc album comprises some lesser known and previously unreleased material which featured on neither of the first two albums as well as a recording of Joy Divisions last ever concert at Birmingham High Hall on 2nd May 1980.

Tickets are sold out for tonight's show but you can still but tickets for tomorrow on the website www.factorymanchester.com
