We're heading to Barcelona in May to Primavera Sound Festival for the very first time. We're looking forward to The Brain Jonestown Massacre pre party gig at Barca Apollo and that's before the festival has even started. Arcade Fire, QOTSA, Pixies, Ty Segall, Nine Inch Nails, Slowdive, The National, St Vincent, Television, Black Lips, Pond, The Growlers, Slint, Loop, The War On Drugs, Follakzoid could be particular hightlights for us.
Brian Jonestown Massacre's Anton Newcombe sat down with Louder than War to talk music, life and his love for Manchester...
When I first approached you about doing this interview for Louder Than War you told me that you “love Manchester,” could you tell us maybe what it is you like about the city?
Well it’s like the antiquated notion of when you hear some Londoner go on about what it was like living through the blitz and everyone pulling together … well, Manchester in a working class way was pulling through since the industrial revolution and not just to keep their collars white and carry on … and in spite of having no option, no outlook, you have all of these people forming groups and making great music and things right where they are from, not going some place else to get famous or noticed. Maybe this doesn’t make sense, but the London groups all come from art schools and the northern bands from dole queues maybe.

We've added a nice little addition to our monthly Saturday rocker at The Ruby Lounge. Sexy Sadie's Cinema was such a big success at our Valentine's event we've decided to make it a permanent fixture. Last month we went Tarantino and screened Death Proof and Planet Terror back to back. The cinema provies a nice chill out area during the night if you wanna take a break from the dancefloor with comfy leather sofas and surround sound.
Our first festival we put on at Antwerp Mansion was a total psych out. Thanks to our co promoter buddies Interstellar Overdrive. WHAT an incredible day. Thanks also to the bands, volunteers and the antwerp mansion team. A surprise 2nd set at 2am from The Warlocks was a fitting finale to a psychedelic ride through the sights and sounds of cosmosis. Roll on next year!
